Hobo with a Shotgun

I want to share with everyone this little delight of a B movie that I found on Netflix thanks to some friends with an adventurous taste in films.  Granted, this movie was most likely made 1,000 times better because I watched it with a group of friends who pointed out things in the background, made funny comments, and asked questions that I might not have thought of.  Nevertheless, if you're bored on a Friday night & hanging out with some friends I suggest this movie.
It is, obviously, about a Hobo with a Shotgun.  Now, if that title doesn't interest you at all then I guess shy away from it.  But if you like funny quotes, fake blood, and righteous old man vigilantes who heal at unfathomable rates then this is for you.
Synopsis: A hobo gets of a train and goes into a town that is run by a family & it's crooked cops.  Seeing people pulled from the street and running over their heads with bumper cars is an average afternoon activity, along with rubbing your face in some cocaine with a few pals.  After a few unfortunate encounters the hobo decides that the money he's saved would be put to it's best use by buying a shotgun (that magically has unending ammo, by the way) and proceeds to take down the bullies of the town.
I won't spoil any more for you, you'll just have to watch.
And if that seat-gripping synopsis wasn't enough, here are a few quotes to light the fire I know you have under your ass to watch this movie:

I haven't done any reviews in a while, and I really liked that last one I did so I have officially decided to do another one. I haven't read any full books in a while (shame on me)so this one will be tv, movies, and music.

Let's start with televisioin, shall we?
I wouldn't call myself a tv-acholic, but I do love some shows. When you just can't sit still long enough for an entire movie, but you have some time on your hands, tv always saves the day.

The new love of my life is Dexter

This show is about a serial killer, working as a blood splatter specialist with the miami police. Kinda creepy and morbid, right?
Well he's actually a bit of a good guy. He only kills other killers! And, I'm going to be honest, my favorite thing about him is that he doesn't know how to have emotions, and it's the funniest thing to watch him try to understand his girlfriend and sister. This show is a great mix of thriller and funny, I highly recommend.

Next: Veronica Mars

This show only has three seasons, and I only love the first two but they are SO worth the watch. Let's just put it this way: If you love smart-mouthed girls who know how to be conniving, tricky, and funny then you will love this show. It's not new, but hey, sometimes all the best of shows aren't running anymore (and what a shame that is.)

and I'll conclude tv with Psych

If you ever need a show to quote, then THIS SHOW RIGHT HERE is for you. Shawn Spencer and his friend Gus are the funniest characters ever. Shawn is a guy who pretends to be a psychic, when really he's just super observant and great at puzzles. Think "The Mentalist" but crazy facial expressions and a great sidekick.

MOVIES

Gnomeo & Juliet

I actually went with a friend to the movies and watched this yesterday. I'm a sucker for Romeo and Juliet, and actually enjoyed this movie even though it was made for little kids. I'm not saying run out and watch this movie, I'm just saying that if it's the only thing playing at the theater, then it's not a total waste of money. It's in 3-D (which I would like to protest due to it being UNNECESSARY in EVERY movie) so if you love that kind of thing, there's another reason to go and watch it.

The Crazies

This movie was actually a pleasant surprise. Personally, I don't like scary movies, but this is an exception...partially because it's not scary, it's a thriller. This movie really did make me jump quite a bit, but it also had a whole other aspect I didn't think it would-romance. And not cheesy teenage romance either. A married couple just trying to keep each other alive. It was cute and jumpy at the same time, gotta give it props for that;)

My Girlfriends Boyfriend

I wasn't expecting much out of this movie. It didn't make it to the theaters, it's "independent", and besides Alyssa Milano the other actors (I thought) were unknowns. But this movie gave me the best unexpected twist ever. It was so unexpected that at the end of the movie I almost didn't understand. And I'm sure this movie review isn't making to much sense, but I can't tell you and spoil it all. The only thing I can say is PLEASE WATCH THIS MOVIE. It's so cute, you won't regret it:)

So I'll admit that this band's songs are more for girls (not saying anything if you are a guy and you like this band, good for you) but I just can't help but love them. Youtube them, I dare you not to fall madly in love with their skill. Song to look up? Run

Okay, so they look slighty creepy in this picture, and their songs are slightly creepy. They only have two that I'll listen to, but man will they blow you away. They're the kind of songs that make you sad, yet you can't help but continue to play them over and over and over. song to look up? A Wish

Ingrid Michaelson

This woman does no wrong. Okay, so maybe there are a few songs I'm not in love with, but that doesn't mean anything. She's a lyrical mastermind. Three songs of her's to look up: Parachute, Be okay, and Sort Of


And just because I can't resist leaving you with something that made my night just a little while ago here is the creepest song you will ever love. Make sure to look up this guy's other stuff on YouTube. It's not all songs, mostly just skits in fact, but he is so damn funny.

Books? Movies? ahh, Summer

Thanks to no school and, hence, more free time I've been able to read some good stuff and watch a few decent (and crappy) movies. Some of the movies I watched are new, some aren't, and the same goes for the books. I thought I'd share to either spare people from wasting perfectly good time and money, or to suggest a good way to relax and spend summer vacation. Whichever way you'd like to take it.

Lets kick it off with movies:

The A-Team: I thought that this was going to be another amazingly stupid movie that Hollywood made because they were starting to get bored and needing something to occupy their time. I was wronggggg. No, this movie is not a romantic comedy or a chick flick in any way, but yes, even girls will like it. This movie was so funny, I and probably everyone else in the theater almost peed ourselves laughing. You and your boyfriend or best guy friend can't decide on a good movie to watch? Go. See. A-Team...now.


The Princess and The Frog: I was truly excited to finally watch this movie. I loved all the princess movies as a child, and I knew that it wasn't going to be as great as the originals, but I still expected something good to come out of it. In all honesty, the movie wasn't bad, it just wasn't good either. The songs weren't memorable, the story was beyond cliche, and it wasn't realistic at all. Yes, I know we're talking about a movie where they turn into frogs, but in the storyline we're talking about a "man-hoe" prince who within three days (or so) of knowing this girl, decides he wants to marry her. Yes, because that's going to last forever and ever. Still one to watch if you haven't already seen it, just don't have high hopes is all.

When In Rome: Disappointment. It was cute, a little funny, but so unreal it makes me sad. The female main character is a complete looney with no sense of...anything really. She's just kind of shallow and silly to me. A good one to watch with your girlfriends if you get bored. You'll most likely like it, but then a week later not remember much of it.


Shutter Island: Now they had to trick me to get me to see this movie. I don't like scary movies or movies that make me jump all around while I'm trying to watch them, so when I say that this movie wasn't scary, believe me. It was a suspense and a mystery, but nothing more. The end was the kind where your still not sure about it at all and you'll think about it for days later. It's also the movie where you should watch it twice to catch all the stuff you missed the first time (though I didn't). It's a good movie to save for a rainy day.


Now that I've bored everyone with that, lets get on to books.

Wings by Aprilynne Pike: The description sounded good, but the book wasn't all that great. The plot just wasn't all there for me and I didn't get immersed into the characters like you normally do with a good book. The main character, for instance, didn't have much of a personalty for me. Cute, not really funny, but a good touch of romance.



Audrey, Wait! by Robin Benway: Super good. The book was funny, you fell in love with the characters, and most of all, it made me think. Its about a girl who gets famous by association, and in the tabloies they make up all kinds of crap about her and the things they do to her. It makes you wonder why we all put so much effort in to "Keeping Up With the Kardashian's"and all that BS. This is an amazing book, totally suggest it.


The Poison Apples by Lily Archer: Funny, interesting, a bit of a feel good book. It's a little hard to keep up with the four changing perspectives, but still good. I think there will be a sequel, but one never knows.




Never Cry Werewolf by Heather Davis: I should've known by the title to not get this book. Thankfully it was short and didn't take me very long to read. The book wasn't terrible, but it was just kind of stupid and part of that vampire/werewolf craze that Twilight started. If you have to do a book report and just want to get it over with, this book will do. If you want an intellectual read that makes you think a least a little, stay far away.




Welcome to Wahoo by Dennis and Elise Carr: fantabulous. This book was so hilarious and a very good read. By the end of it, I was wishing I knew someone like the main character. It's short and loveable, makes you mad and makes you laugh. All in all, a very, very good book.


So I might do this again, even if no one reads it or likes it, it's still a good way for me to keep up with some of the good and bad stuff I've read and watched this summer. Hope it's helpful at least:)
